I went on a scouting trip with MzBitz, the boss ranger in charge of the little one, from the southern gates of Buya today. This is not a regular scouting trip, she told me, and proceeded to tie a stiff strap of leather around my head, limiting my vision. I was to follow her, tracking her down while being semi- blindfolded! This proved to be no easy task. I could barely get around without tripping over myself, and yet had to think on whatever I could sense around me, to find clues as to where my instructor was. She definitely left me clues, though. While stumbling and rolling around, I could feel the wet patches of sand, indicating where she'd laid her feet. This was a good indicator, with us having just come out of the trapper's paradise's shallow pools. I just had to make sure my own feet wouldn't lead me astray. In due time, I got used to it, little by little. I could now pick up on the other trails she left behind, such as the sheep in traps, the remains of predatory animals, broken twigs and crushed leaves. As I sped up to try to catch up to my instructor, I could hear a slight ruffling of the leaves, which made me rejoyce at having come far and close enough for sound cues to be audible. I kept to the barely disturbed path between the trees, heading southeast, until I reached a clearing, where I saw my instructor looking far into the sun. "You spotted me!" She said, but I have a sneaking suspicion that she was only letting me off easy. -Elandriella | |
