               Neutrality, a shifting opinion

Throughout the years, neutrality is a term or concept that has shifted left or right quite a bit - there is quite an "eye of the beholder" tone to the word. Some believe that neutrality means to basically remove yourself from all conflict, take no part, choose sides, have allegiances or alliances, and just let the world pass. Others believe that those types of difficult decisions must be made and managed to maintain balance, order, and a general neutral feeling in the world around you.

One of these ideas focuses on the self, and the other shifts the focus to the world and people around you. This difference in perspective is important to both explore and understand. By focusing on maintaining self-neutrality, and ignoring or avoiding all types of conflict around you, there is a good chance that your inaction becomes part of the problem. You have remained neutral, but the balance around you has now been disturbed.

On the other hand - taking action and getting involved, though it may seem neutrality is lost, can actually preserve the neutral and balanced environment in which you live. Would you allow invaders to take over your home? Hurt your family? Friends? Do you get involved? If so, that simple action - you have chosen a side, and are no longer neutral, but the end result is maintaining order and balance.

Through many years, this simple concept has led to much discussion, and caused quite a few heated arguments.
Do you walk the path with blinders on, or do you take action?
