- Two poems are tacked to the board with great care. The title simply reads "Colonel" and is signed "Em" - The silver ribbon whispers its secrets It yields them up, one by one Sacred offerings, each a candle on the shrine of our loss What cheerful hope, these flickering candles Fire bursting in the Vale, Ignited within our minds Given wings to encouragement Your golden uniform, pinned 'neath the waters They lap hungrilly at it Eager to share in your finding Eager to offer up their treasures And winding the ribbon, curling over itself At last we find its secret Ransomed unharmed, Though memories forgotten --------- A bit of fluff trapped in the mind The sweetest of raspberry creme These memories should stay But when hard pressed, summoned to your presence, They flee all the more Slipping between your fingers Captured water would stay surer But even water must rest Memories will mend Weaving strands back together As the tapestry they are No more unravelled ends No more fleeing drops Just sweet raspberry creme | |
