I was just a young druid when first I met my spirit animal. Wandering through the forest without a care in the world, on the way to meet my beloved husband MythicTenchi. He's long gone from the world now, but I still fondly remember these moments. See, as I was walking toward our appointed meeting, I became suddenly quite tired, and a little bit lost. Looking around, I realized I wasn't sure exactly where I was anymore, which is strange since I had walked that forest for hours each day since I was a child.Grea Deciding I must just be tired, I sat down to rest against a large tree, hoping to wake feeling refreshed and more cognizant of my surroundings. *Nudge Nudge* As I sat there, I was disturbed by a constant little bumping aainst my leg. *Nudge Nudge* *Nudge* *Nudge *Nudge Nudge* ... Upon opening my eyes, I discovered an ethereal rabbit, partially visible like a physical manifestation of fog. It brought such a smile to my face, like puppy kisses or baby breath. Sensing its desire for me to follow, I got to my feet and waited to see which way it wanted me to go. *Nudge* "Yes... I know... let's go little guy! Show me what you need!" The rabbit turned and began to head off into the brush, looking back frequently to ensure I was still following. The going was slow, since the rabbit being small was able to go through much smaller openings than I was as a person, and being ethereal, was able to pass through the branches and leaves regardless - leaving me to fumble and bumble my way through the brambles. At last he brought me to a clearing, where I saw a rabbit with its foot caught in a snare. It had obviously been there for days, as it was no longer struggling. It laid there, barely breathing, exhausted in its terror, and accepting the death that would come. I felt anger and disgust rise within me, as I realized that someone had set a snare and then simply forgotten to bother to check. It's one thing to snare a rabbit to feed yourself or your family, but to ignore the snare and leave the rabbit to suffer until it starves to death is simply unconscionable. Carefully, slowly, I approached the trapped rabbit. Kneeling beside it, I waited a moment for it to accept my presence before carefully freeing its foot from the snare. The poor thing tried to rise and run, but was too weak. So very carefully, I picked it up, wrapping it in my cloak against the chill of the day. Turning for home, I murmered softly under my breath to calm the frightened creature. Upon arriving home, I settled the rabbit into a small bed near my own with some tender leaves and a small dish of water. I left the door open, and settled down to keep watch. *Nudge* *Nudge Nudge* Looking down, I saw the etheral fog-rabbit sitting by my foot again. With a small nod, it faded slowly, and I watched the fog dissipate around my legs. With it, a sense of knowing and understanding settled into me. Nibbles Eartha Aisling | |
