Few suns ago, I made a trip over to Walsuk's for a nice meal. She makes one of the best soup in town. As I arrived at the tavern, I happened to meet Seme, the man in charge of Kugnae Salon, with his beard trimmed nicely as always. So we sat together and ordered two Gukbop meals. As we started eating, I noticed his eyes carrying a flicker of doubt. So, I asked him of any concerns he is willing to share. Seme said, "we have a lot of folks coming to the salon for hair styling, beard care and scalp treaments. Lately, they've started complaining about lack of choices with hair and beard styles I provide. It seems they expect me to expand on my skill sets. But the salon has held its tradition. If I change too much, I fear I?ll lose the soul of what's built. Should I adapt, or should I hold firm to the ways that were passed down to me?? To help Seme with his concern, I pulled out tarot cards. I spread the deck on the table for him to choose two cards. Two cards chosens were flower and tower. Flower is growth, love, and embracing new energies. I said, "If you open your salon to new styles, it will bloom with fresh clients and creativity. It will attract more folks, especially the younger folks, and your salon may grow bigger than it has ever done before. But flowers are delicate?you?ll need to nurture this path carefully, making sure that in adapting, you don?t lose your roots.? Tower stands for strength, endurance, and great will. I told Seme, "If you hold firmly to the traditional ways, your salon will remain a pillar of heritage. Folks who value authenticity and history will remain loyal. But the Tower warns that standing firm also means resisting of change. It will take great willpower to endure, and you may face fewer footprints of those who seek new trends. I placed the two cards side by side as I began telling Semen, "Flower tells you to grow with change. Tower asks you to stand firm with the tradition. Both require courage. The question is whether you see your salon's future as a garden that adapts, or a tower that endures." Seme took a moment to think and placed his hand over the tower card. "I carry the legacy of the salon. The cards showed me that it is my choice how I carry it." Porca | |
