~A Journal of the Kingdoms~ VIII Zephyr's Reading Sometimes the winds call you back to places you know. I often think of Zephyr, and his kind, wise eyes, the hearty chuckle as I naively wrote out my name as a young one thinking I could scribe powerful scrolls. A minor quest of bears in the vale reminded me of the old man at his mountain top, helping all types of casters pull their will into potions and parchment. I thought how nice it would be to chat with him again. I make my way up, my feet more understanding of the rocky path I had taken so hastily many moons ago. Turning the corner at the top of the ascent my smile turns bright for a moment in excitement only... Zephyr... He is visibly sad! "What troubles you old man?" I say "Are you ill?!" He smiles faintly and lets out a quiet sigh "Less are coming now...when I was younger there were many visits a day, many at a time in fact. The time is coming now where the numbers dwindle. I am old, I need the students to keep me sharp! If I have none, I might forget..." There is an urge to play with the dice in my pocket. "Is this the end, Rosalina?" A question I can cast to... Yin, Yang, Greater Yang. Wind. Greater Yang, Greater Yang, Greater Yang! Heaven. Heaven over Wind. Kou. I smile slightly - There is hope. "You must still practice your skills Zephyr, students or not. You are right, we all need to keep up with our studies or we become rusty! However, you must also take strength against the negative thoughts in your mind or it will pull you into despair and away from teaching." His eyes sparkle a little "I suppose that is true..." He says no more as he pulls out his vessels for potions, bottles of wine, bowls of crushed limestone and snake meat. I smile, seeing he is now occupied and make my way home. In order to ward off the negative we must remain strong. We must not lose who we are. ~~R | |
