Picture this; you're out in the woods, enjoying the sounds of nature, staring up at the stars, eating a bit of rabbit that you cooked a while earlier over your small campfire. The next day dawns and you take a dip in the creek to wash away the smell of smoke so you can apply your camouflage for the day and go about the world generally unnoticed to the assortment of wilderness travellers. Unharassed and unburdened from the toils of city life, the world in all its majesty is there to be experienced and you have complete freedom to do so What is a Ranger you ask? Sure, we work to master the main skills we use: Archery, Trapping, Foraging, Security, Cartography, Camouflage, and Tracking. But we're so much more. We're free, bound only by our respect for nature and human life, we minimize our impact while watching to preserve the world around us. Society will always have nature to rely on, in part because of the effort we make to reduce the impacts society has on it. Rangers tend to live in, and are always protectors of the wilderness. We seek balance in nature and to minimize the impacts of man's stereotypically greedy and destructive nature. We allow nature to take its course in the small things, and work to stop majorly destructive events, both natural and man-made, from causing too much damage. We live by a few basic rules: be honorable, avoid publicity, and constantly strive to uphold nature's balance. We're lifelong learners, never fully able to quench our thirst and never satisifed with the man-made world of walls. We have a pact with the Gomancers and Barbarians to heed each others' calls to action, and look to ensure the wilderness is safe for many to explore. ~ Melvin the northerner | |
