I seek Serenity in the Tao - not as one who seeks a treasure to possess, but as one who turns to the river and allows it to carry him. Serenity is not just the simple stillness of stone, but the harmony of flowing waters that yield, shape, and reflect all things without clinging to any of them. In the Tao I find the silence between breaths. The silence between the beat of my heart. The space where the troubles of the world no longer bind me. A place where I remember that I am part of a greater current in the river. To me, Serenity is both the anchor and sail. It calms my mind when fear arises, and it guides me forward when the path is hidden. It is like Awen. It is a balance that tempers anger and teaches me to walk gently among the living... and the dead. My journey to find this serenity was not straight nor particularly easy. It has led me across the mountains of the vale where wind stripped the skin from my bones, into the dark forest of Nagnang where the eyes of beasts glimmered like flames, and to the barren wastes in the northern wilderness. Yet in all of these places - I was able to find peace in the trials they demand. Zenath, the Buffalo of the Mists | |
