This is a great idea, Velka, thanks for pulling this together! It'd be incredible to have other paths weigh in so everyone has a mini-guide and frame of reference when starting out in PK! I've only really started PK seriously this year, and beyond a few helpful critiques from players who know what they're doing, it's been tricky understanding roles, expectations, and *how* to execute. With a lot of tops on hiatus, we lose a lot of knowledge and expertise. I'd love a class, or even just a chat / feedback from those who have been doing this forever. We can't improve without practice, and we can't practice if events are cancelled or we're not challenging ourselves, so please people, show up to events! <3 Again, I'm far from an expert mage, but a few of my own points to add: Positioning Stay with your poets and try to keep your team between you and the opposition Understand Spell Cap! You can cast 3 spells in a second, steady rhythm over frantic speed. Sanctuary is one of the most important spells in your arsenal. Keep yourself and your team sanc'd! Offense - Doze on aethers! You should be cycling your Sam and EE doubles, but if you see an opportunity to doze (dis, someone calls, or you lockdown an opponent), take it! - Doubles: Your attacks can be combined! Know your main combos: - Sam+Pipe+ Voke+HF - Ferno+Pipe+Voke+HF - I have these spell macros configured so I can just "roll" down my number row. You want to cast so both attacks appear as one animation. - Remember your spell cap so you don't single-hit when you mean to double (looking at you, Ezra) - Know how much your attacks hit for under scenarios applicable to you. For example, in Sades, a maxed mage will HF a clean/dozed/sc target for around 400k. - Call your attacks as you get more comfortable. As a rugby player, I think of mages as "flyhalfs", responsible for coordinating the attack. Get comfortable working with your squad. We need to coordinate to take out tops. - Switch your targets up after a couple tries. If I keep calling and going after Velka and keep messing up, her team should take notice and protect her more, leaving someone else exposed. Target Prioritization (R1) 1)Small Mages 2)Small Poets 3)"Opportunities" who get isolated or are walking around clean 4)Top casters (opportunity clause: if you see a chance, take it!) 5)Fighters Target Prioritization (R2) 1)Get tilted and go after whoever took you out, ultimately costing your team the match. Disregard all advice. Defense HELP YOUR POETS, PEOPLE! Sanc yourself, sanc your dis'd fighters, heals on poets or a key attacker. Do not hold heal on someone who is invis, it ruins the surprise. Practical info: -Shift+F11 to turn on ctrlV targeting. When you hit ctrlV, you should see a green / light blue box around you. When I'm not attacking, I have ctrlV on me and I'm tapping my sanc key as I walk. -Tab targeting: Hit tab once to activate, select your target, hit tab again to lock it, esc to get out. You can use this for easier attacks (tab to your target on dis/sc, then "roll your doze,sc,double attack combo) or defensively (tab a fighter or poet so you can quickly sanc / healout) -Regular targeting: cast a spell and y ou'll get a 3rd target box. This is your "react" target: clicking a doze on a random dispel, sanc a fighter on your team, etc. -If you get dispelled: ctrlV, quick sanc, and immediately start eating (either macro food or set something on "e" to hold down. Eating is faster and not subject to the same cap that spells are (someone fact check me on this please) -If you see someone dozed: hit or zap them, don't walk by! If they're sanc'd you can get away with a HF. If a poet is dozed and HB, you can't hit them, so go defensive: hold sanc on yourself or a high value target, or hold heal on the poet -Know your dis/sc/HB animations! NA helps! | |
