Hello all!

I've met so many great people hear, and heard a lot about
how playing and hunting together--especially back around
2005, before Malgalod and Ancient Training Grounds--was an
incredibly fun, community-oriented experience. I love that
side of Nexus, so I started thinking: what if we created
a self-imposed challenge that recaptures that feeling?

Everyone finds their own enjoyment in Nexus, so this idea
won't be for everyone--but if even a handful of people
think it sounds fun, maybe we can refine it together and
give it a try! Read the draft below, and if you have
feedback, feel free to post your own reply or send me a
letter if you're shy.

Nexus TK: Old Kingdoms Challenge

PHILOSOPHY
Play Nexus in the spirit of 2005 - hunt with groups of
players, earn or craft gear, work together to overcome
hard challenges, and experience everything the kingdoms
have to offer. Together.

This is not a hardcore or solo challenge. It's about
experiencing an older way of playing for fun and to make
friends.

CORE RULES
:: Start a new character for the challenge
:: You can group, trade, and share with anyone other
  player in the challenge
:: You can't receive gold, items, or leeching from non-
  participants
:: Essentially, hunt and quest within your means; play
  for the journey and the fun of building community with
  others

ECONOMY AND ITEMS
:: Earn everything yourself or through trading with other
  players in the challenge
:: No preexisting wealth or items
:: No purchases, trades, or gifts from non-participants
:: If you need something, find it, craft it, or trade
  for it fairly
:: No gold or item rewards from subpath, clan, or other
  community events (carnage is ok)
:: Items from Sally's Weekly Quest or similar quests are
  ok provided you earn it yourself or trade with someone
  else in the challenge

HUNTING
:: Hunt with others or solo in traditional caves or areas
  throughout the game
:: No hunting in the following areas:
     - Tangun
      - Ancient Training Grounds
     - Malgalod
:: Essentially, if it gives unusually high XP/hour, it's
  off limits

TRANSPARENCY
:: You must put a mark in your profile indicating you're
  participating in the challenge
:: You must make your character's information, inventory,
  and bank available on your character web page
:: If you abandon the challenge, you must let me know and
  put a mark in your profile indicating you're no longer
  participating

Transparency isn't about policing each other--it's about
keeping the spirit of the challenge honest and shared, so
please help us do that!

GOALS
It would be fun to have a few shared "server goals" everyone
can work toward together--for example:

  :: A full Ee San grou
  :: Craft Sun Armor for each path
  :: Defeat a particularly challenging boss/quest together

Suggestions are welcome, so let me know what you think would
be fun goals!

CHALLENGE PATHS
If you want to challenge yourself further, here are some
mods you can apply for fun.

:: EARNED PATH - no trading at all; only use items and gold
  you personally earn or find in groups

:: IRON PATH - no deaths; if you die you must delete or
   retire your character from the challenge

:: PURE PATH - no subpaths; only base spells and abilities
  (dog secrets and mark spells are fine)

:: HUMBLE PATH - no leeching, even from other participants

:: MYTHIC PATH - no hunting in "newer" areas (Vortex,
  Woodlands, etc.); focus on Mythic Nexus and similar

This is totally just an idea, and maybe it's a bad one at
that. But if it sounds fun to you, help me refine it and
let me know that you might be interested. If there's even
a bit of traction, I'll write up a proper post and see
if we can make it happen.
