Dear community,

I have received a seen a number of posts and letters complaining about the "Flameblade from fishing" issue, and I wanted to comment on it. First off I would like to say that this is NOT a new thing, Flameblades have always been a possibility since Grin first created the system a few years ago. Actually I think at first it was a Sevenleaf, but then was changed to a Flameblade shortly after. This is not a new change to the system, just one that got very little attention until just recently.

Secondly I would like to respond to the people who are being absolutely ridiculous with posts in and out of the games making outrageous claims like "a third of the community has a Flameblade now", or other similar remarks. The system is based on random luck, and when very few people were fishing like last week there was very little chance of somebody getting lucky, however when a mass of the community starts fishing the number of people who are going to get lucky increased as well. If the odds were (for example) 1 in 10000, then 10 people fishing would get 1 every 1000 turns of fishing. To apply that to yesterday it would be like 1000 people would get one every 10 turns, so yes more came out overall with the mass rush.

So just how many Flameblades were gotten in the last few days? I have heard stories ranging from 30 to 500. None of them are true. On the 25th of this month (2 days ago) there were a total of 147 in the game, and this morning when I counted again there were 155, so only 8 were added during all of that (and 1 was actually a boss drop), and that is nowhere close to "a third of the community".

Two groups caused the "panic" over this whole issue mainly. The usual people who have nothing better to do with their time than to try to get the community worked up and upset, something the community is always willing to do. Then later by a group of people who, like the claim above of  "a third of the community has one", was trying to use the situation to drop the price of Flameblade well below normal market prices to snatch them up cheaply. I have seen some people saying things like "the price is not going to be worth that in a few hours when everybody has one, but I will help you out and pay that anyways". These people then hoarded the Flameblades in their banks, and are just waiting until the community realizes it's own mistake, and the price goes back up again, making a very nice profit for themselves. I also suspect a group of Chefs trying to add to the "panic" to get a Flameblade because they made out like bandits as well getting tons of free fish that people didn't want.

We have in the past tried to warn you, the community, about blindly following stories that you have read on the community board or from other players, and jumping to conclusions, but for the most part it seems that there will never be a way to stop you making your own assumptions based on hear-say, rather than actual fact. I just hope the people who sold their Flameblades at well under normal value will at least learn a lesson from this.

On a side note, we did drop the price of the "Boiled fish" item. Like in real life when something is over stocked the price will drop on it. There is way to many fish in the public to continue to support the old price so it was dropped. We constantly monitor the economy in Nexus, and since the days of Kismet the average gold in the community has maintained a very stable rate, and we will continue to take action to keep the economy stable in the game.
