(( SPEECH GIVEN BY THE KING AT THE ROYAL PALACE OF KOGURYO
ON SUNDAY 16TH JUNE 2002 ))

My Lords, Ladies and Citizens of Koguryo,

You do me a great honour in inviting me here today.  I am most grateful to have this opportunity to speak to my loyal citizens at such a monumental event and I thank you both, Minister Anjos and Minister Muckish, for your generous words.

It is right that the last major event to mark my Golden Jubilee this year is here in the Palace of Koguryo in my capital city.  I would like to pay tribute to the work so many citizens do in this, the Royal Palace - where like so many famous predecessors before you, assemble to confront the issues of the day and play your essential part in guiding this Kingdom through the changing times of the past fifty years.

For if a Jubilee becomes a moment to define an age, then for me we must speak of change. Since Y1 I have witnessed the transformation of the Nexus landscape through which this Kingdom must chart its course, the emergence of the Empire of Buya, the great shattering leading to the creation of sub-paths, the growth of the three mighty Koguryian Clans, the end to Koguryian-Buyan Aggression, and now the dark threat of senseless feudal attacks.  This has been matched by no less rapid developments in the Clans, sub-paths, and overall structure of Koguryian society.  Change has become constant; the way we embrace it will define our future.

I would particularly pay tribute to the young men and women of our Royal forces and Clan Militias who give such professional service to this Kingdom often in most demanding and dangerous circumstances.  They have my respect and admiration.  I also wish to express my gratitude for the work of those in the public service, especially in the three officials Clans and the Royal Palace.

We in this Kingdom have the benefit of a long and proud history.  This not only gives us a trusted framework of stability and continuity, but it also tells us what is of lasting value. What we endure becomes the characteristics that mark our identity as a Kingdom -- and the timeless values that guide us.

Signed, Yuri, King of Koguryo

Of His Royal Highness King Yuri's 50th year of Reign.
