The Whisper of the Winds As I awaken from a deep slumber, I am surprised to find myself in a comfortable layer of grass with a white cloth over my body, serving as a blanket. The room is lighted with the fire that produces shadows of the people surrounding myself. In confusion, I spot a woman who was stirring some stew who seemed to predict what I was about to ask her. She said, "A group of hunters found you on a trail unconscious, they took you in. You are now in the Kingdom of the Winds, also known as Nexus." Unbeknownst to this strange kingdom, I do not remember anything about my past life, or what has happened to me up until this very point. Slowly, but surely, I arise out of bed. The warm hut that I am in begins to spin. After a few brief moments my vision repairs to normal. Looking around, nothing seems familiar. This deeply saddens me for the mere fact that maybe; just maybe I had a family out there. I had a life, a family, people who cared and loved for me. But now? I am just a mere peasant in this land; I have nothing to my name besides my pride. As a tear comes down upon my soft cheek, I slowly rise to travel to the entrance, where I peer out of the door. The sun light blinded my fragile eyes where I squinted before I took a double take of my new fate. This land, so strange yet beautiful filled with greens and many animals freely roaming around seemed all brand new to me. A family of squirrels passed by as people from the town went among their business, from hurrying to the market to collecting nuts that have fallen down from the trees. Children roamed across the grass, hiding behind trees to spook their friends. Their laughter filled my heart with hope; the first feeling that was soothing for it acknowledged that there was a chance that everything will be okay. The woman who was stirring the stew noticed that I was walking around, and thought it good for me to go outside and get some fresh air. She sent me out on a quest to find my way through the woods to gather a rare herb. With a small basket and a cloak upon my shoulders, I began to walk north. As I travelled further, the trees and bushes begin to overcome the path. Shortly thereafter, I am walking among the bushes and trees. There is no more paths for me to walk on, clearly, this path has not been taken in quite a while After walking for a short distance, my dress is torn up from the sticks and I can see the blood begin to seep through the thin material. I can hear the water from a stream trickle as it flows. I put my hands into the stream as the cool water sends shivers down my spine. After sitting at the edge of the water for a few moments, I hear the bristling of the leaves as the wind begins to pick them up. For some reason, I begin to hear the strangest noises among the trees. Knowing that I am alone, I become frightened as the whispers surround me in all directions. Frantically, I search for cover to hide from the intruder that has stalked me for I have no weapons or magic to protect myself. I see no movement from any direction, thus causing me to calm down a little bit. Wiping my brow with water to get rid of the dirt and sweat on my face, once again the wind picks up. But this time, I can make out what the whispers are saying, "Follow thy own path, for glory is yours in the making." Taken aback from what just happened, it dawned on me that the wind was whispering to me. The wind was giving me advice on how to take my new life. I drop the basket and begin to run where a patch of sun hits the ground between the trees. Falling to my knees, I bring my face up to the sun. This is day one of my new life; I am the ultimate decision maker when it comes to my fate. I may not have much in this life, but it is what I make of it. I shall not follow in the footsteps of others, yet imprint my own feet into the wondrous legends of the kingdom. The wind beckons me?and this is the path I shall follow. Lynette | |
